The Evolution of Folding, Portable Freedom: A Journey Inspired by Classroom Discussions

Whenever I go out, I see people using utility trailers for various purposes, but storing them in a crowded city like Toronto is problematic. This inspired me to design a folding trailer, which, after many iterations, could be folded and stored in a space only 2 feet wide.

Unfolding Innovation: From Classroom Discussion to a Folding Revolution

During a university lecture on innovation, a conversation with my friend Bharath about the inconvenience of transporting bicycles sparked an idea. Bharath struggled to bring his bicycle into his small apartment, a common problem for urban cyclists. We wondered if we could create a bicycle that was practical to ride and easy to store. This idea became the focus of our classroom discussion.

I decided to take on the challenge of designing a foldable bicycle after graduation. Despite initial disagreements with team members, I pursued the project independently, seeking guidance from professors and classmates. My house side yard became my workshop, where I spent months designing a bicycle that could fold into a compact size. The foldable mechanism was intuitive and sturdy, making it easy to carry and store in tight spaces. My invention, born from a classroom discussion, had the potential to revolutionize urban commuting.

Another idea stemmed from my friend M. Singh's struggle with bicycle pedals hitting his legs. I envisioned foldable pedals that could solve this problem and improve urban mobility. Using my engineering knowledge, I spent countless hours experimenting with folding mechanisms and materials. Eventually, I developed a sturdy, lightweight foldable pedal that made walking with a bicycle easier. This innovation was part of my broader goal of enhancing green mobility and making urban commuting more convenient.
